Central Coast residents living with disability will be presented with 20 life-changing opportunities when two brand new Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) sites open in Gosford in September.

Ability Apartments Gosford Central and Ability Apartments Showground Road are the vision of pioneering SDA providers, Ability SDA. Coastlink, the Central Coast’s leading disability service provider has been appointed as the Supported Independent Living (SIL) Provider.

Coastlink CEO John Davis says the state-of-the-art independent living options aim to enhance the lives of all residents.

“Both Ability Apartments’ sites feature 10 specially designed apartments peppered throughout larger residential buildings, allowing independent living integrated within surrounding communities,” said Mr Davis.

“At Coastlink, our aim is to improve the daily lives of the people we assist, and to allow every individual to maintain independence and connection with their communities, so this integration was a very important aspect for us.

“Being selected as the Supported Independent Living (SIL) provider for these sites means we will be on hand to assist residents 24 hours a day. Once moved in, residents will receive the support they need at any time of the day or night thanks to cutting-edge assistive technology directly connected to our onsite care team.

“We know from experience Gosford is a beautiful place to live and we’re thrilled to be part of such a revolutionary project.”

Entrusting tenant support to a SIL provider is a big decision, but for Ability SDA Co-director Paul Simmons, one candidate stood out from the very beginning.

“We were really impressed with Coastlink’s long-term commitment to the disability sector and their vision to help people live a life of choice and inclusion. For those reasons particularly, Coastlink was selected as SIL provider for both sites and we’re excited to begin this adventure together,” said Mr Simmons.

“With both builds nearing completion, it’s easy to see the life-changing opportunities these apartments will provide for tenants. Several tenants are already regular visitors to the sites, eager to envisage the life they’ll live in their own high physical support apartments.”

The state-of-the-art projects follow on from Ability SDA’s first two builds which were successfully opened in Guildford in July 2019 and Villawood in May 2020.

Each apartment is generously sized with incredible finishes and views. Extra-wide doorways and circulation spaces will allow for even the largest chairs, and provision has been made for bedroom ceiling hoists to ensure the safety of both residents and carers. Accommodation costs will be subsidised by the NDIS for eligible residents. Find out more at coastlink.org.au and abilitysda.com.au.
