NDIS Respite Care

NDIS respite care, also known as Short Term Accommodation, is designed to give primary carers a break whilst ensuring that the person with a disability continues to receive their necessary supports. Respite care can be accessed where a person’s usual carers and support network are unavailable, or to allow the person to experience a different environment, pursue their goals, make new friends, and try new things.

Coastlink offers respite or short-term accommodation for people living with disabilities who need to spend a period of time away from their usual home. Our purposefully designed, accessible respite cottage, and our team of highly qualified Disability Support Workers ensure that every guest’s needs are accommodated.

Whilst staying at Coastlink’s respite Retreat, from the moment you step inside there’s a sense of calm. Soft coastal tones, thoughtful styling, open airy spaces create an immediate feeling of ease and instantly feel at home.
Mornings begin slowly here. Coffee in hand, sunlight drifting through the windows, and no need to rush anywhere. When you’re ready the Central Coast is known for their golden beaches, lakeside walks and a vibrant mix of cafes and local eateries waiting to be discovered.

Coastlink respite retreat isn’t just accommodation – it’s a feeling. A pause, a reminder of how good it is to slow down, and to be supported by incredible staff.

A tailored program of activities can be accessed which ensure that guests can enjoy all the local attractions and events that Central Coast offers.

Community Participation and Access

Short Term Accommodation is available to participants, where the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) determines that the support is reasonable and necessary, and use of the support is related to the person’s disability support needs.
The NDIS typically provides Short Term Accommodation core funding for a period of up to 28 days per year. The recipient may use this funding to access care and accommodation (including meals and agreed activities) in whichever way best suits their needs –for example, for a block of up to 14 days, for one weekend a month, or for one week every three months.
It’s also important to note that, if you already have funding in your Core Supports budget under it may not be necessary to make a specific application for Short Term Accommodation funding. Your Core budget can be used on a range of supports, to meet your needs, and can be used for Short Term Accommodation if you feel that this is one of the best ways to pursue your NDIS plan goals. Check the NDIS website for more information, or for help with understanding your NDIS plan.
