What Is Respite Care?
Respite care provides short term accommodation and support for people living with disability, giving primary carers and family members time to rest and practise self-care. Under the NDIS, it is formally known as Short Term Accommodation (STA) and is funded where the NDIA determines it is reasonable and necessary.
Our respite care services are available to NDIS participants and their carers across the Central Coast. Whether you need planned respite care, overnight respite care, or support when your usual care arrangements are unavailable, our friendly team is ready to help.
Our Respite Retreat: A Place to Truly Unwind
Coastlink’s centre-based Respite Retreat is a purposefully designed, accessible cottage on the Central Coast. Soft coastal tones, thoughtful styling, and open, airy spaces create a warm, welcoming environment where every guest feels at home.
Our experienced care team provides personalised care tailored to individual needs, routines, and preferences, whether for a single overnight stay or a longer planned break. With a tailored activity program and easy access to the Central Coast’s golden beaches, lakeside walks, and local eateries, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

What Is Included in Your Respite Stay?
Every respite stay at Coastlink’s Retreat is designed to support individuals in a home-like environment where they feel comfortable, safe, and genuinely cared for. Guests can expect:
- Accessible accommodation in a comfortable, home-like environment with fully accessible facilities designed to meet a range of disability support needs
- Personalised staffing ratios from 1:1 to 1:3, with our dedicated team of support workers available around the clock based on individual needs
- High-intensity supports where required, including peg feeding, diabetes support, catheter care, complex bowel support, and mealtime management, all delivered by our trained staff
- Social activities and community outings tailored to individual interests and goals, giving guests quality time to connect with the community and make new friends
- Delicious meals and daily living assistance throughout the stay, whether dining in at the retreat or eating out at one of the Central Coast’s local cafes and restaurants
- Personalised care planning completed before arrival, covering routines, goals, and care requirements, so every stay feels familiar and safe from day one
Who Is Respite Care For?

NDIS Funding for Short Term Accommodation
Respite care, also known as Short Term Accommodation (STA), is generally funded under the Core Supports category of an NDIS plan when it is considered reasonable and necessary.
The NDIS typically funds up to approximately 28 days of STA per year, which can be used flexibly depending on individual needs and plan goals. For example:
- A block stay of up to 14 days
- One weekend per month throughout the year
- One week every three months
If you already have funding in your Core Supports budget, it may not be necessary to request additional funding specifically for STA. Your existing budget can often be used for respite care if it aligns with your plan goals and available funding.
